Dilana has collaborated with Simon Odgen on a printed rug series.
The nuances of a printed rug are different from the hand crafted. In this new series of work by Simon Ogden, the printed rug medium is a perfect fit. It not only transfers the graphic quality of the original linoleum print but also captures the aging patina and part deconstructed pattern.
Dilana has taken care to balance artistic intent alongside the digital process; producing a decorative floor covering that by design is sympathetic to the printed process.
Here, Simon re-uses this material, cut to signature shapes and organised to form his new decorative floor compositions.
HWY 285 heading north ‘ a work in three chapters.
This work was originally conceived as a three panel work to be presented as a single panoramic vista . The inspiration for this work centred around Simon’s experiences of a drive that he made in New Mexico in 2015 from Santa Fe to Taos on HWY 285, and of a visit that Simon made to the extraordinary beautiful Santa Fe Folk Museum after that drive.
During the design and construction of this work in April 2019 each panel began to develop its own particular narrative and these were developed further during the final stages of the construction in July . The final configuration of the work is a triptych in 3 chapters , panel number one ‘the duck hide,’ panel number two‘ the seduction,’ and panel number three ‘the body ‘.
The narrative structure of the work Simon likens to that of a Tarantino or a Wes Anderson script where each chapter [panel] tells its own story whilst also acting as the prompt for the following chapter and the works conclusion.
